I have just completed the official portion of my 3D printer project. Although I plan to continue tinkering and polishing the printer, it has reached a functional state and is good enough for me to consider it “done”. It’s been a rocky road from conception to completion, but I’ve learned a lot and grown as a person as a result. I know have a more developed understanding of project design and implementation, more skill with engineering tools, and more confidence in myself and my ability to solve problems, even when I’m in way over my head. There was very little about the original plan that went the way it was intended. I didn’t keep up with reflections, work on it as much as I would’ve liked to, or even stick to the budget, but for such an overwhelming project, I’m proud of it and what I’ve learned from it. In the future, I will be able to create a more robust, realistic plan and learn from the mistakes and victories of this project. Attached, I have a picture of the printer and a picture of a print that it made. It has been a labor of love to create something that can make usable 3D prints and I’m proud of the results.
I wrote an instructables on how to design and eventually build a 3D printer. It's more of a guide than an instruction manual, but if you're interested, it's here.
